ZENZ IS OFFICIALLY B CORP CERTIFIED!

ZENZ has been B Corp certified since December 2022.
This business certification applies to the entire ZENZ organization, including both our salon chain and our product line, ZENZ Organic Products. We are proud to be B Corp certified, which means that as a company, we meet high standards of responsibility, transparency, and social and environmental impact.

We have always worked with external certifications because we want to take responsibility and build trust with our customers and partners. With B Corp, we can continue to strive and develop our responsible salon concept and professional products as part of our mission for a healthier and more sustainable beauty industry.

For us as a company, as employees, and as citizens, it is crucial that ZENZ actively participates in the fight to solve the world’s challenges and create a better future for our planet, our environment, and our fellow humans.

We work dedicatedly with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As a natural extension of this, we are a certified B Corp company and part of the global B Corp movement. B Corp is an independent certification for companies that meet high standards in the areas of accountability, transparency, and performance across five key areas: environment, workers, customers, community, and governance.

For us, this means that we now have an independent framework to guide our development as a responsible business. We’ve always made an effort—now we also have an external, independent tool to help us work in an even more focused and structured way. For our customers, this means they can trust us when we say we’re constantly working to be a more sustainable company for the planet, nature, and people.

Here’s how we contribute to the five areas:

ENVIRONMENT

This area is about how and to what extent a business works to protect our shared environment—from the air we breathe, to our drinking water, to life on land.

Key contributions: Our products and treatments are developed and performed with maximum environmental consideration—from the choice of ingredients and packaging to shipping and production, as well as how we work in our salons. Most importantly, when we make claims about what our products do for the environment, we back them up with external independent certifications and documentation.

WORKERS

This area focuses on ensuring financial security and fair wages for employees, supporting their career development and job satisfaction, and ensuring both physical and mental safety and health in the workplace.

Key contributions: In traditional hair salons using standard beauty products, many employees suffer from eczema, allergies, etc. ZENZ was founded in 1999 specifically to avoid this, and we helped found Grøn Salon (a Nordic salon certification) which sets high standards for healthy working conditions for salon staff.

At ZENZ, hairdressers are not exposed to the same unnecessary chemicals. Since much of our business is built on our hairdressers, we invest in developing and retaining them. We aim to recruit the most talented students and train them to one day become salon managers. We provide ongoing training for all our hairdressers and pay the highest wages in the industry. We also offer flexibility to accommodate all life situations—whether someone needs time to recover from illness or a life crisis.

CUSTOMERS

This area assesses whether a company’s products and services are designed to provide specific, significant, and positive impact beyond the usual value.

Key contributions: Our primary value to customers lies in the certifications of both our products and services. These third-party certifications build trust, as they verify the claims we make. We have robust procedures for compliance and quality assurance. Our certifications are recognized and focus on health, sustainability, allergies, natural and certified organic ingredients, and vegan content.

In addition, we offer full guarantees and have processes in place for customer feedback and complaints. Overall, this ensures that our customers can trust that they are getting what they pay for—and if they don’t, we take full responsibility.

COMMUNITY

This area evaluates how businesses promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and contribute positively to society through donations or direct community involvement.

Key contributions: ZENZ is a primarily female-led and female-driven company. The vast majority of our employees and leaders are women. Most of our production takes place in Denmark. We also have a supplier screening process to ensure we work with companies that deliver social and/or environmental impact. Moreover, we support various local and global projects that help marginalized individuals.

GOVERNANCE

This area assesses how a company is run, how it supports a mission that benefits the planet, people, and nature—not just the owners—and how transparent and ethical the business is.

Key contributions: The most important initiative we’ve implemented in this area is that our company’s articles of association specify that ZENZ’s purpose includes making a significant positive impact on society and the environment. It also requires that all executive decisions take this purpose into account.

In practice, this means that our management is legally not fulfilling its role unless the company is responsible, transparent, and impactful in relation to the environment, employees, customers, and society.
